    where are the bass

    maybe you all can help!
clear lake with mostly smallmouth, water temp 45 degrees, up to 100 feet deep, all rocks no vegetation. in the past i have done really well on this lake, but on thrus. i was prefishing for a tourny and did not even catch a bass. in the past, in april i have caught huge smallies and lots of them. i have caught them by the dam on a rock cliff that drops almost straight down to 100 feet all were caugth shallow on tubes, jerk baits, and a few on jig n spoons. do you all think the fish are suspended or are they on some deep structure maybe 40 feet down. if they are suspended how would you all catch them. almost forgot, the lake is down about 20 feet and is on its way up.

    any help would be great!!

    thanks.

While not a smallie master...what was the weather? If there was high pressure...blue bird skies...the fish will be tight to cover or suspended. You will need GOOD electronics to find suspended fish. Try a 4" worm on an Alabama rig..dropping it down to them and shaking it. Smallies can be tough, but are worth the effort.
