    xd-100 vs. Pennzoil 100% synthetic

My 2007 etec is programmed for the xd-100. An outboard mechanic told me that Pennzoil 100% is the same thing as xd-100 and it would be fine to run it without reprogramming. Is he correct?

Re: xd-100 vs. Pennzoil 100% synthetic (Pounce)

Better find a mechanic who knows what he is talking about when it comes to E-TECs.

ONLY XD-100 oil can be used in the E-TEC when the engine computer is set to the XD-100 oil program.

Pennzoil synthetic is TC-W3 certified and is fine in your motor ONLY if it is programmed for TC-W3 oils.

I run an 03 DI with XD-100 exclusively......Love the way that oil makes it run. Not on my engine!! JMHO

Are you sure? This guy has been working on outboards forever. He claims that they are both just 100% synthetic oil, Evinrude just adds a touch of carbon guard and doubles the price.

He may have started out working on Fred Flintstone's outboard motor but it sure sounds like he never had any E-TEC factory training. Ask him to see his E-TEC diploma, which I'm sure he doesn't have, then call Evinrude customer service and see what they say about the oils being the same, since you doubt us.

Perhaps it was Barney, or Mr. Rubble. That was a long time ago and I was pretty young back then.

I better get it reprogrammed to run XD50. The only place to get XD100 around here is the dealer, and he wants $60 a gallon. What is in XD 100 that makes it so expensive?

Call around to different dealers, many sell the XD-100 oil in bulk for around $32 a gallon if you bring your own container.

Pounce, does the Mattoon airport restaurant still have those delicious pork tenderloin sandwiches?

I wish I knew of someone within an hour drive of here that sold XD-100 for $32 bulk. $49 bulk and $52 new bottle from what I have found...

Yes, we call them elephant ears. I don't go there to often, or I would weigh 300 lbs!
