Rusty, Your opinions on my setup board info please.

Rusty, when you get a minute how about re-reading my post from last year on the Setups By Todd board ( Setup Help For A Classic), including my posted test results from yesterday, and offering any opinions you might have? It's probably about the 10th listing from the top now since I recycled it.

I can't seem to get back into the correct zone with the added jack plate and removing it isn't an option until I can rebuild the transom this winter. I'm trying to limp through the rest of the summer, but at the highest possible top speed, which is still very low by today's standards.

I've seen several posts where water pressure increased with rpm's and I'm thinking maybe I should have gone up with the 25 another 1/4" and seen what happened instead of going back down. Neither Tempest slips on hole shot or breaks loose like the 24 Raker did on hole shot. I also don't have the chine walk I had with the Raker and seem to have as much punch as I did with the Renegade.

I checked your post, I would remove the jack plate and get the transom fixed.

Aw shux Rusty that won't be any fun. What happened to "hang a big prop on and jack er' up"? I guess that only applies to real Bass boats. Seriously, on my motor, which would be better? To prop it for 5,000 rpm's or 5500 rpm's with basically the same speed? Either way the efficiency is close to 90% so I just want it to have a good life since somhow I'm now broke.

I would prop it to the top of the operating range.

If the transom is flexing it will affect the way the boat runs.

No transom flex.........yet. I'm just a perfectionist and one bolt looks to be digging in a little more than the others. I just want to replace it since I've done so much work on this rig over the last 19 years and I never was a fan of jumping waves with a wood transom. It hasn't caused me any problems but I've heard of many giving way without warning on boats that age. My Ranger only has a two speed transmission.........Idle and WOT.

Tighten the rest of the bolts so they dig in the same and no more worries...

Rusty, I guess I'm easily confused. I went to the river over the weekend and had 61MPH @ 5,500 rpm's and 20+ water pressure with the 24 Tempest. I left everything exactly the same except for switching out the 24 Tempest with a 25. That resulted in 58MPH @ 5000 rpm's and 20 water pressure. I thought the general rule of thumb was each degree of prop pitch causes a change of 200 rpm's? Isn't 500 rpm's a little extreme? I guess the good news is maybe I can raise the motor a little bit? What would you think........ 1/2"? Or maybe my 175 Johnny wants the Raker back.

I would stick with what worked best, as you posted the RPM change is a "rule of thumb".
