Strange siting on Tar River today

I had a guy at work tell me a friend of his had seen a porpoise on the Tar River this week and I called BS on it cause I've lived here my entire life and have never seen one past Whichards Beach on the Pamlico River. (Tar meets Pamlico at Washington)

So today I'm way up the Tar above Greenville in my tunnel hull and I see something rippling the water downstream so I go to investigate it and turns out to be the porpoise I had heard about. Poor guy was swimming back and forth in a 100yd stretch of river and you can walk across much of the river there and not get your knee's wet.

Felt bad for him so I called NCWR and they told me to call NC Marine Fisheries and they contacted an organization for stranded mammals. A lady called me and asked me a bunch of questions but said there might not be much they can do for it. I hate to see it suffer in the shallow water but don't know if much can be done.

You're a good man for doing what you could. Breaks my heart to see something like this happen. you would think there is something they could do. Maybe it got in when the river was high from all the rain and now cant get back from where it came ?

I've put in a call to the local news station to try and get some more exposure on it. He had to go through some very shallow water to get where he's at now but I'm afraid he won't make it back before it's too late. The lady was concerned but I'm sure her resources are limited..

Update..

Received an email from the news station that they aired the pics I sent them yesterday. Hopefully with some better quality pics the public will see how bad he looks and will get some help up here to get him back home.

hopefully it wont be too late by the time someone does something. Im sure there are ways to airlift it out of there.

Found the poor guy dead on a sand bar this morning..

It is natures way ..the smart ones stay east....and survive to make more. Maybe best for nature to take its course. Pretty sad to see though for sure. Sort of like the home industry, defaults on loans, and the work ethic we now have in this country....the idiots keep getting bailed out and are allowed to make more....dangerous cycle.
