Congrats Mike...!What a tough day on Lake Smith. Mike had 5 for almost 11lbs. 2nd was over 9lbs w a 5lb kicker. From the weights and the talk @ the weight-in, most everyone else struggled. I got 2 bites all day with a 4-5 pounder getting off @ the boat killing my AOY chances. Especially considering that Mike and I were practically tied for 2nd place overall.

Thanks yall. It was tough and I couldn't believe some of the guys didn't even have a bite. I was the only one with 5 keepers and even culled a couple. I was flipping/pitching all day. Now I got to beat Brad (edit) for the AOY points race(wish me luck as he is good). Now for you guys that live close to Lake Smith I seriously suggest you get your hands on a small boat(if don't have one already) and fish that lake every chance you get. Its a bigggg bass lake with a ton of wood and bulkheads/rip-rap. Its shallow all over so its not like you have to find them deep. Nice homes to look at and verrrry nice people to talk to that live on the lake. I looked back a few years ago and me and Rob Uzzle had 18+ and got 5th pl. in a tx. Thats saying something. You do need a permit from the city of Norfolk.
Congratulations buddy! I have a buddy who owns a john boat that already has a sticker on it just need to convince him to take me there with him next time he goes. Hint,Hint,Nudge,Nudge.
I have to echo what Mike is saying about Lake Smith. There are some hawgs in that lake for sure...! The tx that we had over 18 lbs, there were 2 over 7 lbs weighed in that day. Imagine not winning big fish w a 7 pounder in your livewell. That was early June that year. It is much tougher to fish in the heat of the summer, for some of us at least. Congrats again Mike...!![]()

Great job Mike....However, I've stood side by side with you at Smith when we both had our heads down at weigh-in...
It's not always a piece of cake....But it's hard to beat in the Spring.

But that was in when I first started fishing it. Its a diamond in the ruff, and its just like any body of water you fish. When they are on they are on, and when it sucks it sucks. But you know as good as anybody how good it can really be. 4-6lb'r are easier to catch than some or most of the rivers around here![]()
