Which ramps would be best to launch from the nc side to fish the upper end of the lake? I usually put in at salmon rd. but was wondering if there was a ramp further up the lake.

I often use the ramp at Poplar creek, its on the VA side but not too far. It takes me about the same amount of time to get to Stonehouse and Poplar, poplar being simpler directionwise. There is another ramp called Steel Bridge that is a few miles up from 85, that would probably be the closest to the upper end.

There is a new wildlife ramp on Hawtree Creek on the Carolina side, but I have absolutely no idea how to get to it other than it's off Rt. 158 not far from Norlina.
I use Hawtree when I put in up the lake....Have to walk a bit to park, but it is a nice ramp, and not many people use it. There is an old store on 158 that you turn at, turn back to the left, go to the end of that road, turn right, ramp is on the left. If I am mistaken, somebody pipe up. Hard to remember not driving.

I googled a road close to it and mapped it that way. The real address is 1200 peete farm road. Couple of turns here and there and I was there. Had a good day on the water.
