    Help

So I was on the lake Sunday from 10 till 2 and had a pretty good morning fishing in shallow waters around the banks. around 12 I decided to make my way back into a large shallow cove and as it should be there where shad everywhere. I mean there where huge groups everywhere with at least 10,000 per group. Every so often the bass where coming up to get there fill and they would break the water. I must have seen 20 come up between 12 and 2. I threw everything I had in the boat to try to get them to bite but couldn't. The closest thing that had some interest was a fluke but only one fish followed it ironically I had one fluke that was torn so I threw it in the water. I was fishing the new one and the old fluke was floating there and all of a sudden a huge bass came up and took it. It was amazing to watch all the bass come up and feed but sucked because I didn't catch any of them. The only thing that I thought was that I had a large fluke and the shad where half the size. Any suggestions to try if I am in that situation again?

throw a small jigging spoon over them and work it fast back to the boat.

If they ever made topwater fishing illegal you would just give up fishing all together wouldn't you....

But I have to hand it to you....You sure know how to find the topwater bite...

When bass break the surface feeding on shad 95% of the time they make 2 runs, the first one to wound or kill some shad and the second one they actually eat. Throw something the samesize as the shad and also needs to fall slow like it is wounded !!

    Re: Help (bassnva123)

Thanks for all your help! I did throw some top water but without any luck. I didn't realize that they usually make two runs, I will keep that in mind. Maybe I wasn't patient enough and ran my bait to fast because I was too excited. I did get me a Sammy yesterday so I will give that a try instead of my usual top water bait. I have been wanting to start trying the Luck Craft. I am not sure if I am going to be able to go again for a couple weeks since I am going out of town this weekend (SD on a pheasant hunt). That might have been my last go for the year depending on the weather plus I have to get my axle replaced on my trailer (under warranty), one of the tires is worn out on the inside. Hopefully the weather will hold and we will have one more pretty weekend. Thanks again.

had the same situation last year in a small creek off the north landing river. get yourself a small 65 sammy and throw it in the middle of the shad, caught over 30 bass that day, had a blast

cannot count the bass I have caught off the 85 sammy in the last 4 years including some 1st place wins. use the 65 for when the bass are chasing the shad. agree sammys rule
