Assuming your motor is running at optimum performance with no issues, you may have to drop down in pitch to get the hole shot that you want. It will cost you a little of your top end but it will get you up on plane quicker. You also may want to consider running a quad prop instead of a traditional 3 blade if you haven't already given it a try.

Re: Very poor hole shot (Reel Fanatic)

i had a 92 2000dc with gt200 jack plate helped mine (i was able to get the motor up so the prop would slip on hole shot ) you may want to try having the merc pvs holes put in your prop so it can vent a little better ..mine was a pig outta the hole even with the jack plate (it did help) never got around to putting pvs holes in the prop but i think it woulda really helped

Don't know what kinda motor you got but,
    I've got a 94' 190DC / 175 Fastrike
Worked 23" Tempest PLus w/ 3 med plugs
    6" manual plate @ 3.00" under
    Trim wedges for + trim
    3 second hole @ 3200 rpms
    65 gps @ 5700 rpms, w/ tourny load, 30gal gas, 90 degree ambient temp.
    trimmed out, wot.
The plate will help. I added the wedges(cheap upgrade) because of all the
neg. trim. It'll tuck way under. The prop was worked for lift. Took awile
but I finnaly got it "aired out".
