    Good news!

You all may remember, a good while back, I posted about the son of a co-worker, who was in a terrible accident. (Pete and Bill have met Ryan).

He had to have facial reconstruction surgery and a broken hip repair.....and many smaller injuries...

He is going back to work Monday!! He has healed quite well and now has new teeth, which look totally natural. He is very pleased about being able to go back to work...He wants very much to get back to helping his Mom with expenses....A really great kid!

He brought his boat out here yesterday. He purchased it for very little $ last year. The brand is Laser (I think that is the spelling). Appears to be 16'. 70 Johnson. Galvanized trailer.

Billybass and I are combining stuff to get a GPS on Ryan's boat. The boat, itself, needs a lot of help. Electrical problems, clear coat peeling, etc. Boat too far forward on trailer so transom mounted transducer for the Garmin fish finder got ripped off, leaving holes which need filling. All in all...a project boat...but am hoping to help this kid get on the water. He doesn't party...loves bass fishing and is an all-round great young man...

Anyway..just wanted y'all to know he is doing well, health-wise... Thanks for all the prayers...they worked!!!!

    Re: Good news! (pete 1)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Fridge is full of cold brews....Bill know electrics, and I am an excellent gopher...but we sure could use some expertise regarding re-finishing....

As said previously..your prayers did the trick, and Ryan and his mom (and I) thank you!!!!!

Why don't you plan a certain weekend that a lot of us can make it down and bring what we can and get this guy on the water. I know electrical real good and we can have like a cookout afterwards. What all does he need for the boat ? If you don't mind Lea make a list and we can start getting it together.

Good idea...I will need those of you who want to help, to let us know here in the VA forum, which day(s) are available. As for list of what is needed, I am hoping Bill will slip on out here to help me figure out what we need. It appears to be 90% labor... Bill and I have gotten together and have all the pieces and parts we need for a GPS. Ryan has a small Garmin depth finder. The rest is gonna be running wiring, fixing lights and switches that don't work...and the buffing and clearcoat replacement. I know Ryan does not expect all this, but it's something I hope we can do to give him a decent ride till he can get all the bills paid (the accident was not his fault, but you know what happens with insurance companies...they had to hire a lawyer) and back in the business of saving some money for the future...

I really appreciate the responses. Sounds like we could have a fun day or so with a get-together! What a great family we have here!!!

it's gonna be tough to get everyone together during the fishing season but I'm sure we can work it out. best bet would be pick a month and see what weekend everyone has available during that month. I'm sure I can clear a weekend for such as great cause.

we'll do it as a big picknick, I'll bring some dogs and drinks and whatnot.

You are probably right Perry...pick a month and then we get the days from there.

    Re: Good news! (bassnva123)

    Lea,
I can help with some parts. I have a fish finder GPS combo ( black and white version of the 532 ) and all the cabling needed for a NMEA 2000 network. I have the transducer puck but no GPS Puck ( can get off another member pretty cheap or EBAY). This should cover his console. If he needs another fish finder for the front I have a X-19 that will work on the NMEA network he can have also but no transducer. I have a almost brand new 43# Thrust Motor Guide 12V he can have for it also. I can bring it down Sat morning and replace that ceiling fan while im thier.

    Re: Good news! (poorboy20xd)

Appreciate the offer, Monte...I think we're set for TM and electronics.

Thanks, guys... He has a fishfinder..not sure of condition of trolling motor on boat, so yes, Rob, bring that one. Bill donated GPS and I had the cables and antenna puck and bracket for it, so electronics are taken care of...thanks!!!!

Main thing is gonna be labor..Hooking up GPS, fixing electric wiring and switches that don't work...patching the holes from the ripped off transducer and reinstalling it...and trying to get the clearcoat mess fixed. This poor boat must've sat in the sun for years....
