Anyone here have a concealed carry permit ?

After the lousy start to this year (break in @ the house),
I am seriously considering getting a handgun for protection and home defense. I figure if I am gonna do that, I may as well apply for a CC permit.

How do I go about it, and what might prevent me from being granted one ?

Circuit Court here in Halifax County to get one...Well to get the paper work...

Things that will keep you from getting it? Arrests, drug arrest in particular here in the my county....Plus also the Sheriff has to sign off on it here. SO he usually post names for all us to see, so word of mouth may get you as well.

Get a shotgun for the best bet....point and shoot, no aim.

got one of them, but it could still kill someone outside the house even after going thru the walls (3 1/2" 12 ga)...plus its' hard to manuever in tight spaces

call the Sheriff Dept. and they will walk you thru what you need to do. I've had mine for over 8 yrs.

Load it with shot not slugs, and get a pistol grip for it to shorten it down.

Everyone that lives here in Hampton/N.N. that i know goes to the Superior Pawn Shop and takes the class for conceal permits, I hear that it is very very imformative if you want to carry. The classes are normally on Thursday evenings around 6pm. I always see cars(5-6) there taking the class..If you want just call them for more info. I will say this if I lived in N.N. I would def. get a conceal permit without any real thought. Good Luck

Oh yeah heard the class was real easy and you can use one of there guns if needed be or bring your own.

If you dont want to sit in class all day, you can also do this online. They are based in Norfolk and this class is accepted by the state. I plan on dooing this one. I dont want to spend a day in class when I could be fishin!!!!

Its a video then a test. They offer a download of the paperwork required, however I have heard that the paperwork is outdated. My buddy did it and when he got to the court house had to fill out an up to date form.

I've had mine now for about 18 years. Back then you had to show "just cause" Pharmacists never got denied. Now the law says they must have a reason to deny you. I never had to take a course but now I think you do. A Taurus "judge" or "Thunder Five" loaded with 410 shells seem to be my favorite for inside the house defense. Easy to point

I've had mine for a few years. I went to the Circuit Court in Chesapeake to get the application. The clerk there told me I had to either have proof of taking the class, be former military with ID, or have my hunter safety education card.

I showed her my retired military ID, filled out the paperwork, went across the street to the police office and got fingerprinted, and paid the fee. I got my permit in about two weeks in the mail.

I know from 10 yds away, it went thru 2 exterior walls covered in asbestos slate, and 1 interior wall...........3 1/2" 12 ga 00 buck is almost the same as 18 22 cal bullets hitting you at once.


A big part of my concern, is I have no doubt that my neighbor had something to do with the break in, and I also know that there is no way to prevent them from knowing the items have been replaced and are back in the house (hence, they may try again).

Had mine many years, here in NC you can carry a weapon as long as it is plane site, like on the seat. Went with the concealed permit because so many state laws are differnt and did not want to get burned. Last check 34 states honored CWP Most Southern State honor other state, Best watch your back side in some of the far North States. Contacted Att. Gen. in states passing going to VT. fishing and they tell you weapon has to be in locked case not really available to the driver unloaded with ammo or clip in seperate compartment Yea like right dudem "just wait a min. while I get my unlock my case get my weapon and get it loaded". Call Newport News Circuit Court....they can tell you....I looked on their website and didnt see anything that tells you about getting a permit.....just where to call to ask...

How do I get a concealed weapon permit?

Individuals must obtain a concealed weapon permit application from Circuit Court. Applicants are required to attend a gun safety class and present the class certificate of completion and the application to the Central Records Unit. Applicants with prior military experience are not required to take the gun safety class if they have a certified copy of their DD Form 214. Upon receipt of the required documentation, the Central Records Unit will fingerprint the applicant and forward the fingerprint card to the Circuit Court.

Download your application from the VA State Police websight. Take your concealed carry class, ( if your active duty or retired military and have proof of handgun training that will suffice ). Take your class certificate or your documentation showing training to the NNPD Headquarters for finger printing. Once your done thier go down town to the clerk of the court and file your paperwork and pay your 100 bucks . Wait 4 weeks and if your approved your license will show up in the mail. Thats all you have to do for NNPD.
