    Tips on Smith Mountain Lake

Spending a week down there over the 4th. Was hoping to get some info on the lake. Was even thinking a going with a guide for a テつス day to get some tips and insight. If you know the lake and feel like sharing some info or pointing me to other resources or even sharing where your hot spots are, Iテつ知 all ears.

    Thanks

July on Smith? My #1 tip would be to FISH AT NIGHT.

If you're going to be fishing during the day, be sure to take plenty of motion sickness medication before you leave the dock. There will be a lot of boat traffic and more jet skis than you can shake a stick at.

My best advice would be to fish deep on any structure you can locate that is holding fish or at least has bait on or near it. Thats where you'll find the majority of the better fish. Jigs, big TX Rig worms and deep cranks should get you some action out deep.

Or you can choose from what seems like a million docks. I like the deep water docks better, especially in July. A shaky head or senko should get you bit around the docks.

If you're looking to hire a guide call Dale Wilson. If I can find his #, I'll post it up.

Go at first light and fish topwater. That way you beat the boaters and catch some active fish!

Definately a goob night time Bass Spot in the Summer. I usually go out, fish afternoon bite, then fish till about 1:30-2am (c-rig and shakey head), Sleep on the boat ,then wake up and hit morning bite. makes for a good time And you don't have to deal w/ the traffic too much.

Nope, Not on SML No stagnant water for them to breed in.
I just drop anchor in the back of the cove, grab the sleeping bag and pillow, and sleep like a baby.
