Keeping Carpet looking nice and new?

I know I probably should post this somewhere else but....

What do you guys do to keep your carpet looking new? I just recently found out that the type of shoes you wear can really damage your carpet. Is this true? My carpet is becoming harder and harder to get plush (guess thats the right word). I use carpet cleaners and shop vac and a brush. Is it ok to spray the oil based protectors on boat carpet? The amount of time I spend on my carpet is just crazy Boat is kept inside so outside elements is not a factor.

use vinegar and water is what we use on our carpet, will get stains out if you have any.

Do you have a wet vac? Just plain old water (lots of it, saturate the deck) and some brushing. Extract the water with the vac and it will look as good as new.

I spray fabric softener on the carpet and let it soak for a little while then take to a pressure washer to rinse. Purple power for the stains. Works great!
