    Super Braid

Have been breaking off alot of fish lately on soft plastics using 20lb power pro, w/med heavy rod and palimar knot. Does super braid knots have a tendency to get water logged after a few hours of use. Was suggested that hook set might be to hard for braid? Any other opinions

Yeah, something else is going on, no way your hook set if the culprit. Not even if you were throwing an X-Heavy action rod should your braid be breaking. Sometimes I'll go an entire day and not re-tie my knot on braid as long as it looks good.

Every now and then, you can get a bad batch of line and it will break unexpectedly. Same thing with fluoro.

I've never used glue on a knotmay be I should try it. Going to a heavier braid will that allow me to use lighter weights 1/32 1/8 etc. I only use braid on spinning gear

have definitely had that happen......one time only, but same line as always, and all of a sudden breaking off fish...then next spool..no problem

First time I tried that Gorrilla Braid I broke it three times setting the hook. Stripped it off the reel and left it in the bottom of the boat! Haven't had that problem with the Berkley braid.

    Re: Super Braid (lbkbassin)

Are you sure your are not pulling the knot through the gap of eyelet in the hook?

used to happen to me with 10 or 15lb Power Pro on my skipping rid. Switched to Owner hooks and believe it cured my issue. Gamakatsu's gap was enough to have the line pull through it, though I believe the super line hooks corrected my problem also.

    Re: Super Braid (skeetersx200)

Had the same problem as Chip. Using the Stren Super Braid sometimes my knot would pull through the gap on the Gamatsu hooks. I use the 30 pound braid and I've never had it break off on me during a hookset. Most of the time I can't get it to break off when I want it to...

You mean unravel? I see the threads where it broke at the end of the line

Hookerz 3X Flippin hooks should take care of that problem. Give 'em a try.

    Re: Super Braid (lbkbassin)

No, it didn't unravel. The knot was still in. On some hooks where they bend the hook to form the loop that you tie you line through, they don't do a thorough job of bending, and they leave a small gap in the loop. Your line can get caught in it and pull out when you put tension on it.

If you're seeing broken threads at the end I would have to guess it's some bad line. I've left braid on for over a year and still couldn't break it.

If you see that then the line broke. Are you fishing around a lot of rocks?

    Re: Super Braid (Centipede)

You may be seeing the tag end of the line that looks frayed/broken. With a knot just above it. If thats the case, you are pulling the line through the hook eye like I have done in the past on more than one occasion on the hookset.

Oh I get it, I've noticed the gap when tying on. Think I'll move up in line weight and change hooks, thanks for the feed back

Also possible if you are seeing it unravelled then the knot is simply not sinching and is pulling out the then ends are where you had cut the line when you tied the knot.

it sounds like they are trying to say you suck at knot tying---but in a nicer way.

I didn't say it--they did. I would never treat my "Homey" like that.
