If it is, how is the ramp, parking, safety there? I haven't put in at Helens since I first started fishing here... that was... geez - like 1994 timeframe. Anyone know the condition? I don't want to put in at Gordons creek (Whatever they call that place now - River's Run, Rivers Rest ???) and make that long run - rather burn truck gas than boat gas.

glen i think it is but might not have the same name yea about that long for me to maybe a bit longer but it was right across form the thoughfor but think it migh be called some thing elese but the ramp was laways good i do believe. just had the ramps and small resturant wasn't it ? but i may not be thinking of the right place.

I don't remember a restaurant, but there was a little building there - I think it was for campers - like little hotel rooms or something.

Glen, it's open, i stayed at the hotel there last summer, the ramp is nice and i don't think you have to worry about anyone getting in your stuff...

I'm trying to avoid that long run upriver. If I put in at Helens, I have a 2 minute run. Truck gets 15mpg... Boat gets ??? (much worse)

Glenn, Yes it is definately still open, now its called Rivers Rest. They have a restaraunt, motel, fuel, and a good ramp. We'll be camping at Rockahock all weekend(campground at the dam) so I'll be on and off the river untill monday. If you see me runnin around feel free to wave me down.

I think the one called Rivers Rest is at the Rt. 5 bridge. That's the one I'm trying to avoid using. I'll be on the water tomorrow - up towards the dam. If you see a White Triton with a Black Stripe - dual console TR-20X, give me a shout.

Glen, the park at RT 5 is now called Chickahominy Riverfront park, the old Helens hideway is now called rivers rest. that's the one i got you the address for.

the ramp right across from the "cut through" is River's Rest, very nice ramp, and the restraunt has excellent food. stayed there last year for the Benefit T.

Yep, it's River's Rest. Restuarant is the Blue Huron, pretty good food. If you are going for the day you might consider using Rockahock, it's closer for you guys coming from the east by at least 20 miles driving. It's right at the dam about 8 miles up from River's Rest by water.
Rivers Rest is the place you want, nice ramp, motel, etc.... (the ramp is a little shallow at low tide) but you will be fine. You'll have no problems there. I know how to get there from Rt5, but do not know the Rt numbers so cant help with directions.

I believe the road they are on is Wilcox Neck not Willcox Neck. They have directions on their site.
You have to eat at the Blue Heron restaurant...Charlie Brown has awesome food there. They redone the rooms there 2 years ago. 3 guys bought it and made repairs to it and added dock space and all to it.

Restaurant was closed today, ramp was shallow due to low tide - had to back in until my exhaust pipe was blowing bubbles in order to get it off the trailer, fish didn't bite at all (absolutely, positively not one single bass bit - 2 catfish though - one on a crankbait, one on a Sweet Beaver), and to top it all off, my engine kept tilting itself out of the water - I had to disconnect the up relay to get it to stay down. After doing that, we pretty much were limited to getting on plane and plowing water. Went to the dealership, and picked up two new relays - nope... not the problem. I've got a wiring issue somewhere, so I'm out of commission for the weekend until it's fixed.
Ahhh... when it rains, it pours.
Wish me luck - I'll try to fix it in the morning.
