    Prop cavitation

    Hi,

I recently replaced amy blown lightning lower unit with a standard lower unit. I have a 2003 225 HO. I am running a 27 temptest with my jack plate up pretty high. The problem I am having now is that I am not able to get up on plane before the prop blows out and goes from 3500rpm to 5000rpm and I loose all bite. Anyone know what might be causing this?

    I appreciate any help

    Nigel

We will need to know which gear case you have. (pictures)

You may just need a blow out ring.

I'll try to post pictures when I get a minute. It's the standard lower unit, not the lightning with the nose cone. I believe the standard is the LU that come on all of the Non-HO models.

Magnum, has a skeg that is swept back on the bottom and has plastic water intake screens, it also has a larger gear set which makes the exhaust area larger.

4 hole has a straight swept back skeg and 4 molded holes for water intakes.

Lightning has a nose cone, straight swept back skeg and small molded holes for water intakes.

Off shore has the same as a 4 hole but has removable plastic screens for water intakes.

Im not even going into the SLE and Lightning2.

Bought the lower from a moderator of another board on BBC. Iwas told it is the Standard Gear Case, not the Magnum and not the Lightning. It is off a 2007 or 2008 etec. It has the plastic water intakes.

That is an Offshore, is there anything hanging off the back of the boat?

Are all the plugs in that prop?

There are three plugs in. Do you know what the gear ratio is for an offshore LU? What do you mean by "Anything hanging off the back of the boat?

I had to put all solid plugs in my Tempest plus for it to come out of hole. Then you can take and drill out in small increment's until you are pleased with it!

No nothing hanging off the back, nothing has changed on the boat except the lower unit. Switched from the lightning to the one pictured

May want to change the plugs in the prop to smaller ones.
