Lake of the Ozark’s, anyone familiar with or live there .

I am considering a vacation home at this lake and my question is where? It’s so big!
The reference seems to be mile markers but honestly I have no clue.

My budget is large enough (within reason) for about anywhere on the lake.
As you would expect I will have a bass boat and a pontoon boat

But do you like cruising in 4 foot wakes in every direction possible? You won't feel comfortable on any boat under 35' on the main lake on weekends.

Down there quite a bit and do not for any reason buy anything on any main channel, you stuff will get BEAT TO SHIT! Also not near nay popular bar it wil be busy ask hell and very load until closing.

There used to be one of those On Patrol type cop shows called Ozark Law that came on and was filmed in that area. My take was that on the weekends people spent all day on the water partying and when the sun went down they just moved the party to the bars. The streets were so jam packed with people that driving was next to impossible. I've never seen so many drunks in one place in my life. They said that the area averaged approximately 100,000 visitors each weekend. On summer holidays that number would grow to well over 500,000 people for the weekend. Not exactly my idea of a place that I would want my vacation home but to each his own.

Let us know. We could have a ball with BBC brethren staying the weekend.....

Good luck in your search. For vacation home, sounds par for course. For retirement home, not no but no way!

Fun Fact, a Pontoon boat ran 114 MPH at the Lake of Ozarks shoot-out event for a world record.

I think that during the summer months it is considered the second most dangerous body of water in the country. Nearby are a couple of other lakes that would be more peaceful and less dangerous. One is Stockton I believe and the other one I can't remember but I think it's called Pomme De Tarre. I would definitely go take a look at those options. Good fishing in both.

Before I made a significant investment there I would get an AirBNB on a summer weekend at LOZ just so you get an idea of what to expect from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend

If you really want some peace and solitude then take a look at. BullShoals.

For some actual feedback from someone who has lived here for almost 30 years.

If you want some calmer water and great fishing. I would look from the hurricane deck bridge (33MM up). Really I would prefer Bollinger Creek (44MM) and up. Great fishing. There is a lot of boat activity in that area at times, but it's normal sized boats mostly (30 foot and under). The main osage river is 92 miles long. Navigation and water depth can get tricky from about the 60 MM and up at times. There is a great bass club that takes out of Station 46 Marina once a month. Averages 45 boats, and there is an open tournament that weighs in at the Wet spot bar and grill (59.5mm). They have about 15 tournaments a year.

You are going to be more isolated by land in that area, but for fishing and some peace and quiet it's really nice.

Below that it is pretty busy especially in the summer, but you are closer to town. PB2 is at the 3 MM of the Grand Glaize arm, which starts at the 19MM of the Main Osage arm. That is where your bigger tournaments will take out of it.

From Tan Tara (27mm) down, it really is a zoo in the summer. You can navigate anywhere with a 25' Tritoon or a 28 plus foot bowrider pretty comfortably, but it is very busy.

If night life is your thing, there is plenty of it. If it's not, then there are plenty of more relaxing things to do. There are plenty of good on the water food options throughout the lake.

I don't really fish tournaments in the summer unless they are the river tournaments I talked about above. It's just too busy, and I don't like night fishing (which there is a lot of). Plus I'm so busy.

If you need help feel free to PM, I also sell boats at the biggest dealership at the lake, so happy to help there.
