What kind of spider is this?

Fishing Caddo for the first time and we’re trying to figure out what kind of spider it is?

    Any guesses?

Wolf spider. We get them on our dock in Canada. They’re not as big as that one.

I call them dock spiders because they love to live under docks. But officially it is one of many species of wolf spiders (family Lycosidae), so named because instead of capturing prey with a web they run their prey down.

They are very fast…or at least faster than this old man can swing a boat paddle to kill one! My wife got one on our dock last summer by throwing a pan of boiling water on it.

Brought one of those back from Canada last year. Found in in my splash well one day, helped him into the water, then he was hanging out on the dock all week. Came back to PA, was cleaning the boat out, and he emerged from my bilge compartment...

This brings back some not so great memories. I was fishing and snagged a burlap bag that was half on shore and half in the water. I dragged it the boat to get my lure out and then tossed it back on shore. Little did I know that when I tossed it back on shore a big wolf spider landed on my head. It was crawling across my eyebrow and went towards my ear. Freaked me out! I ended up capturing it on video because I was video taping that day. It was a couple years ago. I believe it was in this video if you don't want to sleep at night check it out.

I saw one on Bee Lake a few years ago that I swear it was as big around as a baseball. I gave it all the room it needed as I decided that particular cypress tree it was on, really didn't need to be fished by me.
There's lots of decaffeinated brands that are just as tasty as the real thing.

    Hi Mike.
