Clearance betweenRub rail & Trolling motor shaft

I recently purchased a used Lowrance Ghost trolling motor to replace an older Motor Guide, If I used the same holes, my shaft is about 3 1/2 inches from the rub rail. Is this too far. I know instructions say and minimum of 1 1/2" but is there a maximum distance. Also is there an optimal distance . Thanks

I don’t see why. As long as it is as close to level as possible. Mine is right at 2”.
