Saw in a mercury group on facebook that Mercury has a new supplier for the synthetic blend Optimax oil. It is honey in color and apparently has been reworked some to address the gelling issues that people were having.

I found out about this 2 months ago getting oil pump primed. Dealer I bought motor from said his stock of 55 gal drums were honey color or like 5w20. It had changed color.
The mech I used to do the pump priming never seen that and thought it was 5w20 also. Beings remote tank was dirty we dumped it.
I went with old reliable Pennzoil premium plus. No mistaking that color. 7 hrs running with me no problems. 2004 225 reg opti with 570 hrs. Also do mix in fuel tank at 150:1. Does not even smoke.

Is it okay to mix the Original Optimax Synthetic Blend oil (part number 92-858037K01) with the new Optimax Synthetic Blend Oil (part number) 8M0229798) in the reservoir? The original oil was dark brown/reddish in color and the new blend is an amber color.
I was not aware Mercury changed the Optimax 2 Stroke oil blend when I went to pour in some additional oil and freaked out when the color was amber. I thought I bought the wrong oil cuz it looked like normal engine oil.

The BLEND did not change. The "BLENDER" changed.
