    Mercury monitoring options help?

I have the Smartcraft SC1000. Will this tell me all codes / faults? Do I need Vesselview or Smartcraft Connect or is that just redundant?

The SC1000 instruments, System Monitor or Tach and/or Speedo do not display diagnostic/fault codes.

I installed the Mercury VesselView module on my Opti a couple of years ago. Couldn’t be happier with all the information provided. Connects using BT to a phone or iPad. The only add-on I’d recommend is the fitting that allows you to monitor water pressure. EuropeanAM (Don) has what you need if you call Parts.

Does Mercmonitor show these? What about Smartcraft Connect?

I’ve considered getting it actually but they are phasing out Vessel View apparently so weighing my options.

Mercury replaced the Vessel View Mobile with Smartcraft Connect. Same principal, different packaging.

This can read all engine faults / alarms?

vessel view will show faults/codes. I have Smart Craft Connect and I have not found where you can see fault codes. Not that I have had any codes, I do miss those not being readily available

It does not provide fault codes but it does provide significantly more engine data than the System Monitor or Tach/Speedo combo.

I'm not up on the newer Smartcraft options so going out on a limb in saying, to my knowledge, no Smartcraft instrument provides engine fault codes. For that you need to see a dealer or purchase the Diacom diagnostic software.

So Vessel view shows more than the new Connect?

I currently have vesselview mobile. When I went to crank over my motor and it wouldn't turn over (loose battery cable). My engine did the loud beeps to alert me of a fault. I opened vesselview mobile and it told me I had a fault - low voltage. Not sure what other faults/info it gives but it certainty does for some. I'm sure smartcraft does the same but hopefully with a better app, the vessilview mobile app is pretty bad.

    Some do, some DON'T.

The System MONITOR does NOT (just blinks icons at you).

The System Tach & Speed DOES have limited fault display info *

The System View did have limited fault display info *

The MercMonitor series does have limited fault display info *

The VesselView Series have limited fault display info *

The Smartcraft Connect series has limited fault display info *

    * Many Smartcraft Compatible engines built after July 1, 2007 have "expanded fault data", and may also have maintenance reminder features that vary from one version to another.

I think we're on the same page Don, no disputing they all provide fault info. I was replying to this part of his question "all codes / faults" and maybe could have worded my reply better.

Do the newer SC instruments also provide fault codes? I know the SC1000 System Monitor did not nor does my current level 2 MM.

Some provide codes, some provide DESCRIPTIVE fault data (depends on the fault and the instrument's programming).

Nice thing is that consumers have options... but the bad part is that sometimes they will read 10-20 different internet sites, write down part numbers they see, and head to flea-bay. That scenario is seldom a cost-saver... and definitely not a time-saver in most cases.
