    What were they spraying?

I watch this guy's videos on YouTube since he's from Iowa and fishes a lot of different lakes within Iowa (including ones I fish or have fished). Anyway, on his most recent video he is fishing Green Valley and this boat/barge thing goes by him spraying something into the water. Admittedly I've never seen when they are spraying for weeds, but this thing was out well away from shore spraying. Just wondering if anyone knows what they were spraying for? It seemed to make the water a light greenish/bluish color.

So I bet it is the same thing they are doing at Prairie Rose…. They are trying to stop the Allergy blooms in the summer. What ever they are spraying sticks to something in the water and makes in sink. I’ll see if I can find something on the DNR website.

Found it. Just search the wed and it will come up. This is the same thing they have done at other lakes I guess.

Cool, thanks Redog! If you watch the video, he catches a bass after that stuff has been sprayed and when he releases it he watches it swim down in the water. Not sure if that stuff helps make the water clearer, but it looked like you could still see that bass down 4-6 feet in the water (I'm guessing at the depth, but that's what it seemed like to me). Considering the water clarity was about 8-12 inches when I was there this Spring, that seems like really clear water.

I was there not long ago and thought the water looked different. That’s why. But I had a good day, thinking about going back tomorrow today heck I’m in the shop not getting the boat ready. I really enjoy the end of the week and getting ready to go out in the morning!!

Most likely they were spraying a copper based algaecide. Seems early to have an algae problem already. Years ago when I lived on Rock Creek Lake it was treated most summers to kill algae.

geen balley always has a bloom early and then gets pretty thick. I wonder if this stuff will have any affect on it

If you look it up on the internet it talks about what it is and what it does. Kinda bonds to the particles in the water and then they sink to the bottom. Last Saturday it was really clear water. I could see all those carp.

Wonder how long it’s effective. That lake could certainly use the help
