Lots of crawfish will be a watermelon or green pumpkin color with orange on the tips of their claws.

I like dipping green pumpkin with red or black…

regular, plain pumkiseed with chartreuse or pink…

I go thru spurts…. Sometimes for a while I won’t dip ever.. and then I’ll get on a dipping kick…

Did this years ago with what I thought were good results using chart and red.
Looked at my logs and found was close to the same. Less to worry about spilling dye on the carpet now.

If I am going to add color, I use the pens. I spilled the die ONE time and I will never buy another jar of it.

Orange & hot pink both work good. Smallmouth sometimes bite baits tipped either hot pink way better than they do chartreuse.

Don’t be afraid to improve your fishing. First of all, JJ’s will completely fade away after a few days in the sun. I had some red blowup all over a white fishing shirt and my light grey carpet and neither had a permanent stain. Be careful opening a bottle of JJ’s on a warm day because pressure may build up and blow the stuff out. Remember to just crack the cap open a little to release the pressure.
Just to be on the cautious side, I set up a special box to hold all nasty liquid stuff….dyes, Kickn’ Bass, fingernail polish, superglue, and anything that can leak out and make a mess. When I dye a bait, I always do it over the box and lay the bait with the still wet dye on the lid until I get the cap back on the bottle. I keep it up under the port console with the net and throw pillow.

The dye pens come in a pack of 4, red, chartreuse, blue, orange. $6.00 a pack. Can’t beat them, dipping jars are a no-no in my boat.

I carry spike it markers with chartreuse, red, orange, and blue colors and a jar of orange spike it.

I always have the pucker factor when using the jar for dipping, but it is way faster to get what I need. I haven't spilled yet...knock on wood.

I talked to a guy at the spike it booth at the classic a couple years ago and he said they sell stuff that neutralizes the dip and allows it to be washed out of carpet and whatnot.

I used permanent markers, carried a bag with black, blue, green, red, chartreuse, didn't have too worry about spilling dye in the boat...

Ive used the spike-it markers in the past. I used to be big on adding color to the tips to my baits along with using bang garlic scent on everything. Haven’t done either in some years now

As do I. Preferred is JJ's, but it doesn't like the intense TX summer heat. So I'm experimenting with Spike It! this year.
Been fishin' since I was 5 years old...Thanks Grandpa!
