Split ring on a spook style bait

Recently purchased a few strike king sexy dawg walking baits and they do not have a sit ring on the line tie. Is this normal? I see other brands of walking baits that have them but not the 8 that I ordered. Would it help for me to put some on? Or is it not that big of a deal? If so what size would be best? Thanks!

You can just use a proper sized quality snap, tie a Rapala loop knot, or add a split ring of your choice.

All three options will work just fine.

Can't give you the actual size but always put split rings on the style baits.

If it is a lure that I tie a loop knot for easy action, I always remove the split ring as if you don’t cinch your knot directly to the split ring the line can work into the split and fray/break. I am just anal like that.

Gotta use a thick enough leader or line that won't winch into/under the split metal area of the ring.

IMO, there are so many quality snaps that are every bit as strong, more efficient, and work just as well as a split ring. As a matter of fact lots of SW fellas use snaps to secure bigger baits for vastly bigger, badder, stronger fish.

I agree with the snap instead of a split ring. Wiggle warts come with a snap and work fine for that application and many others too, like walking baits. However, for poppers, I tie directly and try to get the knot on the bottom of the eyelet to get more of a spitting action.

You need a #4 or #5 quality split ring . Split rings work . Tie at top of the ring and that puts the split part at the bottom . A quality split ring is
stronger than any loop knot . Lots of monkey see me do , on the videos . I have fished with many of the top pros who promote loop knots on video
and they all had split rings on their walking baits . You try that loop knot , it will cost you fish . The split ring wont . I will stand side by side with anyone
using a loop knot and walk a bait right with him . No advantage to the loop knot . But it is up to the individual , monkey see me do .

Guess I'm the lone "No Split Ring" stand out guy !! I prefer to tie directly to the bait on any Top Water bait that I impart the movement of that bait. That means any walking or popping bait. Adding a split ring I feel I loose that control. Been doing it that way for over 60+ years ! Guess I'm "Old, Old School" !!

Try a Norman Speed Clip in place of a split ring.

I seriously doubt the fish can tell any difference.

That said, I use cross lock snaps.

I tie direct to the bait eye ring. I feel that I have a more direct control over the baits action than with a split ring or a loop knot.

I feel they have more wiggle with a split ring or a snap. I prefer split rings—get good ones: either Spro or Owner

I remove the split rings and put a snap on and leave it on. I just tie to the snap. Watching this not sure there is really much noticeable difference.
