I have a Minn Kota Edge 70 that is 12 years young. The cable sleeve is cracked in several places, so it needed to be replaced.

I purchased the sleeve (part # 2265430) off Amazon for about $12. That was the easy part. I looked for how to's on the Web but did not find much other than replacing the cables. So, I just headed into the job, took a wrong turn, but recovered and finished.

Disconnect all power from the trolling motor before you start. Wires will be exposed in the sleeve replacement. I disconnected my plug on the bow.

Concept: There is one doubled up drive cable and 4 electrical wires in the old sleeve. All need to be pulled out of the old sleeve and put in the new sleeve. You need to pull the cables and wires through the new sleeve, so you need one end of each of the cables and wires free to do so.

Tools: Phillips screwdriver, marker, small scissors/knife, Heat shrink tubing, Heat gun or equivalent.

First attempt: The wires have spade connectors under the pedal. Seems like you should just pull them off and free the wire ends. No, not the best idea. The spade connectors have 90 degree fittings and these take up a lot of room when you are attempting the get the wire bundle through the new narrow sleeve and make it difficult. So, don't disconnect the wires under the pedal. This was the wrong turn. I put all the wires back where they were under the pedal (PIA).

Second go:

Deploy the trolling motor.

Pedal area: Turn the pedal upside-down. Put slack in the drive cable loop by loosening the cable tension screw on the "toe" of the pedal. Remove the plate covering the cable pulley (on the "heel" of the foot pedal). Pull the drive pully off to free up the cable.

Head Area: Remove the six screws holding the "head" of the trolling motor. Pull some slack in the drive cable ends and disconnect the two-drive cable ends from the spiral drive end at the head. Take note of how the ends are secured (barrel/hole) and the path that each cable takes on the spiral before removing the cable ends. Don't cut anything and try not to lift the spiral drive gear off the shaft too high to get to the bottom barrel.

Remove the metal cable stay plate in the middle of the head. Mark ONE cable and the cable stay plate side with a marker or tape. This way you know the orientation of the cables when you put them back together. Remove the cables from the cable stay plate by lightly squeezing both tabs for each connector and pushing the cable back toward the foot pedal.

Next you will see a white plastic wire tie down. Take note of orientation and remove it.

The 4 wires (red/white/black/yellow) are connected to the head by straight spade connectors covered in heat shrink tubing. Carefully cut off the heat shrink tubing on each wire, don't nick the wires. Pull the connectors apart.

All of the cables and wires should be free now. Pull the old sleeve off the wires/cables. Carefully push the cables/wires (all at the same time) through the new sleeve. Having a second set of hands to keep the assembly straight helps here. Not difficult to push until you get 3/4's through then you kind of have to slinky the wires though an inch at a time from the open end.

It will appear that there is too much sleeve but by the time you get everything in place it comes out just right.

Assembly is just the opposite of disassembly with the exception of the spade connectors in the head. You must replace the heat shrink tubing covering the spade connectors (about 2" worth of tubing each).

Should take about an hour and a half with no missteps. Taking photos along the way helps a lot.
