Question Anyone ran into extra charge on shipping with UPS

Was trying to buy something off a member and when he went to ship with UPS ,they told him there was going to be an extra charge but couldn't tell him how much something about the tariff thing. This is a used item coming from one member to another not from a company or out of the country?? Anyone know anything??

Sounds fishy to me. How can they charge a tariff on a used item that has been in country for no telling how long.

UPS has done away with Surepost so there is no longer a budget shipping rate.

Yes, and Fedex is even worse about the surcharge backbilling. I will say it seems odd that a UPS store mentioned that, because I thought they had to stick to their rates.

Just made an acct and messed around with rod shipping prices. $17 - $30. And no hassling with a moron at the USPS counter that can't measure the tube.

Try to avoid shipping with UPS here in Canada, expensive and they like to add "extra" charges if they think they can get away with it. One time at work, was told by my manager that a shipment of 5 60 inch TV monitors were to be delivered by UPS the next day. Next day the delivery driver shows up with only 4 units, I told him to not even bother unloading them off the truck, he said he was "only doing his job", and I said "I'm only doing my job too" ! Next day all 5 show up together with the same driver, WTF !

Be sure to check the irregular package option at the bottom so they don't try to backcharge you.

I second pirate ship. Cut out the local ups that is marking up almost double.

The extra shipping charge was most likely due the length of the rod. It requires special handling on an irregular function belt that is for odd shaped boxes, over weights, and long items. If someone is saying tariff that is little fishy for sure. Surepost was stopped by UPS due to the large number of packages that were late and made service failures by the USPS. It was costing UPS more to use USPS than to do it themselves.
