    Dedicated lithium battery for electronics

Making the switch to lithium, putting in a 36V for the trolling motor and a 12V dedicated to electronics only. Leaving the AGM cranking battery in place to run the boat.

My question is about group size for the electronics battery. I can purchase either 12V 100 AH Group 24 or a 12V 100 AH Group 27 or a 12V 100 AH Group 31. Other than size is there any reason to select a larger battery?

I can fit any of the 3, however if I put a Group 24 I would have a little extra storage room.

The 12v 100amp/cells fit comfortably in a group 24 case and that is what I used. Powerhouse lithium makes a nice tray for that size and at a fair price.

I have the same set up you've got. I went with Ionic 50AH for trolling motor and a 125 AH for the electronics. The reason is this battery has the BMS (Battery Management System) so I've also got it 'jumped' thru a switch to also double as a spare cranking battery if needed. Did this about 3 years ago and been extremely happy with this setup.

Lots of content on my channel that may help with some of your questions.

That said, depending on the brand, the main difference you'll find between the Group 24 vs Group 27 vs Group 31 is just the case size. The 31s literally have foam inside of them to make up the gaps. If your boat has Group 31 trays already, then going that route makes sense.

Thank you for the responses, it seemed simple on the surface, amps are amps and the size shouldn't matter, just trying to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
