Motorguide xi3 only spinning 360 degrees with remote then stopping.

So like the title states, my (new to me bought used) Motorguide xi3 is only spinning 360 degrees with remote then stopping. It doesnt matter where i start spinning the unit from , it will stop approx where it started spinning when holding down either left or right. Does not have gps module, i was going to add it but wanted to make sure 1st that things like pin point spot lock would work without the unit stopping if it needed to spin 360 degrees. this is for a small johnboat project, i have an xi5 on my 19 ft. and it works great but can spin endlessly if it wanted to. I dont know if this was a "feature" of older units and maybe needs an update. I can try to hook it to my carbon to see if it will update over nmea.

Just seeing if anyone else has seen this before or dealt with it and how it might have been resolved or its just the way it is. I was going to take apart the transmission but wanted to wait to hear from anyone 1st, everything else works perfect. TIA

There is probably a bad tooth on the main drive gear of the transmission. You will have to replace it because Motor Guide does not sell parts for that unit. If you are going to upgrade to GPS, I have one still in the box that I will gladly sell to you. I am a dealer so I can give you a 1 year warranty on it. Hit me up if you interested and I will give you a price.

When you say it will stop about 360% from were ever you start it from seems odd, usually they’ll spin in circles until
the cord wraps up, shot in the dark….are the remote batteries good?

Yes batteries are good, previous owner sold it to me this way, i knew it was an issue but i plan on cutting down the shaft and using this only in a pond in maine on a small aluminum . I just want spot lock up there since my boat has it and i cant live without it, lol. hate getting blown around in the wind.
