    Maybe try a strong magnet??
There's lots of decaffeinated brands that are just as tasty as the real thing.

The Shimano SLX is a pretty good reel and very similar.

Take one of the old metal stringers with the metal clips and tie it to a rope long enough to reach the bottom. Open all the clips and lower the stringer down where the rod and reel went overboard. The stringer will snag something on the combo and if it gets hung on a rock or limb just pull it off, the clips will bend enough for it to turn lose.

Yep, $3 metal fish stringer (wth the big bobby pin clips) stashed in the box. Open them all and cast it like an A rig. Let it sink, wind and you get your combo back.

    Buy another Shimano..

SLX or a newer Curado would be my choice. I have a Daiwa Tatula CT and while it’s a fine reel, it doesn’t live up to the hype for me

Same for me. I like the Tatula but not as good as the Curado.
