Exclamation Vessel view mobile. (DISCONTINUED- Replaced with Smartcraft Connect MOBILE)

Hello fellas- Convince me that the vessel view mobile is worth spending the 2 bills. I have a brand new Nitro Z19 w/ a Mercury 200 pro XS showing up any day. I have an iPhone and have read mixed reviews on the VV mobile.
If I do get the device, can I plug the module in, attach it to the motor and get solid readings on my phone or do I have to add additional wiring/harnesses to my console? All on all it seems like a good addition provided the darn thing works as it should.
what I don’t want is to spend 200 bucks for what is going to serve as an hour meter.
Thanks much for any and all input. I do truly appreciate hearing from real life honest experiences.

I have one on my 2020 Pro XS 175 and think it's a great addition. You can monitor speed, rpm, water temp, observed faults, alternator output, etc, but the most important one for me is the fuel level.. As long as you update it when you add fuel, it does a really good job of monitoring usage if you always have the app running and connected.. it's always been within 1 gallon of being correct, which is nice since boat fuel gauges are more like a magic 8 ball.

Plug n play, no additional wiring, has great features and data, also has faults and maintence, can log all historic and present data. I watch temp and wp mainly but whenever testing or wot runs, it stores max rpm and max speed to look back on. It’s definitely a good investment. I also bought a Samsung tablet and mounted it on a ram fitting that is dedicated to my VVM only

I was under the impression that it doesn’t monitor Water pressure? Also do you have to have cell service for it to operate or just Bluetooth? Where are you guys placing them on your motor to get the best connection to your mobile device?

If you have the digital sender on your motor it will read water pressure. I had connectivity issues with mine mounted on the motor but my iPhone sucks. I ran the cable to the console and mounted the vvm under there and it works 100%. It is worth the money if you don’t want to go with a Mercmonitor. I have no complaints with it.

I much prefer the Mercmonitor but it is several hundred more. No connectivity issues, no phone or tablet getting too hot or hard to read in bright sun etc. It shows all digital data and is awesome.

All that said, the Vessel View Mobile is a capable device and shows the health of your motor. If that is what your budget allows, then get one!

Mine is under my dash and there’s no sunlight issues reading a phone or tablet, the background is black the numbers are white and large. You need to add a digital wp sender to your engine, they don’t come standard on the engine now. You don’t need cell service, it’s Bluetooth and once you open the app once for the day, it’s auto connect from that point on

Thanks fellas. Guess I’ll get one ordered so I can plug it in when my boat shows up. I’m sure it will be of good use during my initial 2 hr break-in.

You will waste $200 on things a whole lot worst than Vessel View. I will not run another outboard without it

Where does it store MAX RPMs ??? Performance reports give RPMs in 500rpm increments, Not max rpms that I can find

When you are back at your Home Screen, click on the mph and it will open a new page with max speed and max rpm for that day

You need to have either a Merc Monitor or a Vessel View!!! With Vessel View unit you don't have to run any wires. You can also pull it off really easy and take it to your next boat. I have been recommending the Vessel View for some time now to people who buy our rebuilt motors. If you get the Vessel View (and mount it yourself), be sure to mount towards the front of the motor away from the coils and spark plugs. I am hearing that some people (including Mercury techs) are mounting them on the back of the motor which is by the sparkplugs and coils. The wireless portion of the vessel view units are then getting damaged by being so close to that "arcing and sparking" energy (I am an EMC Engineer by trade and understand this quite well). They are seeing little to no problems when they are mounted away from that location.

I agree 100%. I have VV Mobile because it is what my boat came with, but I would rather have a merc monitor and not have to use my phone. Most of the time I don't bother opening the app becuase my analog tach is spot-on and I use my charts for speed. I do use it for gas though as my analog gas gauge stays on F until we're at half a tank. One thing I did like about VV mobile was looking at the performance reports when I first got it to figure out what RPMs got me the best mileage or best compromise of speed vs mileage, but now that I know what those RPMs are, I hardly use it.

No, Smartcraft (ANY Smartcraft Instrument or Display) provides a Smart AVERAGE.

NOTE: VesselView Mobile is now DISCONTINUED. It has been replaced with Smartcraft Connect MOBILE (wireless). Locking thread to prevent further confusion.
