Any experience with the 5.0 V8 and/or 3.5 Eco motors?

Everything I’ve read is the eco boost motors fail after 100k miles
Turbo problems
We have a 2019 F150 V8 5.0L Coyote & a 2021 F150 V6 3.5L TT Powerboost (hybrid). My Powerboost gets better mileage towing my boat without issues but the V8 feels alot better towing our 31' camper.

I have the 2.7EB, no complaints. Needed a new trans at like 65k. I've rented a truck with the 5.0 and it's QUITE peppy. So is the 3.5. Will put you into the back of the seat. Towing beast too.

Engine is pretty much the same between the 3.5 offerings but the powerboost is the hybrid version that has more HP & torque thanks to the benefits of being a partial electric vehicle. I think it's worth the money but I also wonder about long term durability with all the start/stop that happens as it flips between electric & gas. My '21 will be 4 years old in May and I bought it brand new, no issues thus far. My 2017 Explorer Sport had the same 3.5L Ecoboost with no issues in the 5 years I had it.

Love the 3.5 ecoboost. On my second F150 with it, traded in my first one with over 160k, never an issue.

The 5.0 is the most reliable.
I'm at 142,000+ miles with my 2014 3.5 ecoboosted F150. Zero problems. After 50 years of vehicle ownership it's been the most problem free of them all.

It is my understanding that you can only get a 5.0 in the lower trims, XL AND LXT and not the other trim levels.
I have had multiples of both and you couldn't give me a 5.0 after having the 3.5. Also have had 0 problems with the 3.5.........with that being said I currently have a 3.0 Silverado 1500 duramax which has been a great truck so far. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to a 3.5 eco boost though. I also wouldn't hesitate to own a 2.7. That 2.7 is an animal and will pull a bass boat much better than a 5.0 will.

I've owned them both. The 5.0 is fine for daily driving but when towing it has to constantly downshift and rev to the moon. The 3.5's torque curve is much broader like a diesel and it will just chug along at lower rpm's without constantly shifting.
For daily driving and towing a bass boat I'm very satisfied with the 2.7. I like the 3.5, but the 2.7 fits what I need just fine.
You won't go wrong with either at this point. Neither one is necessarily more reliable. The ecoboost platform has been out for a long time and the primary kinks seem to be by in large gone. I have a couple of old f150's that I kept in my work fleet as beater trucks. All well over 200k and a mix of 3.5's and 5.0's. I've never experienced turbo failures on the ecoboost and the only major failures have been non motor or turbo related. The 5.0 is the meat and potatoes V8 for the guy that wants a V8. Ford was wise to keep the option. The Ecoboost has the performance edge for the guy that wants that. Turbo's make half tons pull incredibly well.
My personal truck has a 2.7 and I had a triton V8 before. When I bought it I wanted the 5.0 but I had to get what was available in the package I wanted. No complaints on the motor. Pulls awesome, much better than my prior V8. Now the Ten speed transmissions are the concern. Had to replace mine at 61k but possibly the new ten speeds are better. If you want the most performance from your half ton it will be a Turbo option.

For what it’s worth, I’ve owned 2 F-150 v8 5.0 coyotes. First was a 2011 that I traded in at 260,000 miles. Second is my 2024 F-150 that’s been great. I tow a 2018 Basscat Eyra. I specifically purchased my new truck with the V8 for that reason.
I currently own a 2016 F150 Platinum w/ 3.5L Ecoboost. I had little to no problems until 105K. I've had to do the following:
1) Replace turbo cooling lines, seals, and fittings
2) Replace thermostat
3) Rear end axle seals
4) Transfer case seals; which led to a failed 4x4 internal gears
5) New plugs thanks to the overheating from the thermostat
6) Failed HVAC blend control module
7) Failed FCIM (lost control of many of the safety / luxury items in the truck)
All of this within months of itself: Around $9K in dealership costs to get it all repaired
I've been wanting to keep this truck to 200K miles, but it's hard to swallow $8-10K each year for repairs.
Been fishin' since I was 5 years old...Thanks Grandpa!
