check out "backlash" charters, they run out of Rudy inlet this time of year. My son and I went out with them a little while back, ended the day with 5 nice yellow fin tuna, 1 big blue fin tuna, and a nice Dolphin.

one of the Yellow fin was a citation at 72#

What does this mean? Did you get some kind of fine for too big or ?? Or is it a special kind of fish. Just curious.

I have thought about going out on one of these trips, but don't have the space to keep the fish when I get back. Do they sell the fish to defray expenses?

Sorry for all the questions, it looks like fun but I am just totally in the dark, as usual..

Re: Deep Sea Fishing Charter Service (Fish'n fer fun)

No, it's not a fine for too big, it's more a special recognition for catching a large fish. it's a good thing.

what we did, was to have the fish cleaned and steaked at the marina, it cost a little bit but saved us from having to do it. then it's just bring it home and put it in the freezer.

the charter company doesn't usually sell the fish but I have done it privately before. I used to fish on a small boat, when we did well, we would keep some fish then sell the rest to help with the costs. most of the time, there will be people at the dock that are willing to buy the fish from you for themselves.

Any idea on the cost for fishing with backlash? There is none listed on the site.

    Ahhh, now I feel better.

Congratulations! It does look like a fine bunch of fish!

I have always thought that this would be a cool thing to do, but never gotten enough people up to do it.. IE 4-6 guys that want to go out and bring home enough for a freezer full each.. We love to grill fish at home now, and having one or two in the freezer would be neat.

I don't have a huge freezer, but then I am not used to catching lots of fish either

Thanks for the info, maybe a group will want to go this fall or next spring from BBC ??

$800 a day, that was a few years ago. it runs right at twice that now, $1600 + the standard 20% tip puts you right at $2000 for the day, then devide that by 6 people. so, you see it aint cheap.

I found a place in VA Beach that is running $1200 for a full day (5 am. to 5 p.m.) plus the 20% for the baiter.

Re: Deep Sea Fishing Charter Service (pete 1)

Is it any better, cost wise, to go from Oregon Inlet or Manteo/Pirates Cove? If we split one 6 ways I have no probelm being one of the six. I'll stay tuned...

I am going to Manteo in a few weeks, can check out the local fleet there and see what's the scoop, if you guys are interested in a charter outa there...

I will be driving past you next week on the way to SC to take my kids back to the mother to get ready for school. I will also be back down that way the following week down on the 22d and back on the 23rd for my daughters first day of school. I will stick my arm out and wave at you...

That's reasonable, and I bet it would be a blast. Will report back after the trip to Manteo about what I find there...
