I just noticed the voltage display on my gps was ranging from 14.1 to 11.6 volts while running. I don't know if it ever acted differently before...but it would seem to me that it should be more of a steady reading. Also. my brand new strarting battery seems to be "more dead" after a day of fishing than my last battery ever did. I woulg think that I'de get a code if something was up with the regulator or rectifier...any ideas? model# E150ILEUC THANKS!
The first thing you need to do is get rid of the wing nuts and install SS lock washers and Hex nuts or SS nylon insert nuts on your battery connections.
It sounds possibly like a regulator problem, but bad or corroded connections anywhere in the system could give similar symptoms.
Inspect the regulator rectifier and loosen and re-torque each nut holding a wire. Early models had problems with wire tightness on the studs.

bump, I've alrerady got the star washer set-up. Seahorse, when you say "inspect" do you mean visually? If so...it looks perfect...no corrosion or burn marks...everything was and is tight. In fact, everything under the hood looks new. I'll hook it up to the laptop in my driveway this weekend if I cant get it on the water....see if I come up with anymore clues.
