Little slow in the off season. Figure I'd share a West Harbor summer bass fishing trip there. Little different than your usual harbor fishing day there.

I appreciate what R&J are doing, but I fish those same waters a lot, and let’s just say that while largemouth fishing in Ohio’s Erie waters is much better than inland, if you’re out there when there’s any significant competition from other boats, it’s not that easy, and the farther along in the summer you go [past, typically, June 15th], the tougher the bite gets. This latest video trip, if taken 2 weeks later, would have been a much sparser catch. And of course, there always are those days when every fish bites, days when only a few bite, and those when almost none bite. My best days out of 50-60 trips a year look amazing, but even after decades on that water, there are days when 5 keepers are a difficult try. I find the fish on the Michigan side of Erie are quite a bit less sophisticated/picky.

There are definitely no guarantees when fishing. Sometimes it's just using something a little different that will trigger the strikes, and other times like you mentioned it can be a grind. I have a Portage River video I'll put out in the coming months from this fall when Jim and I fished. There was two day largemouth tournament going on that was in its second day, plus a local tournament that launched in the Portage River. We fished behind people all day and still put a good day together. Jim and I have both had good days largemouth fishing both sides of the lake this year, but I think both of our best day fishing for them came on the Ohio side. One other thing to consider is the tournaments that go out of Sandusky Bay, West Harbor, and Portage River during the summer many boats go to the Michigan side and bring their bass back to Ohio. The early tracking studies the DNR just published shows lots of the fish aren't venturing too far away from the ramps. Which means those Michigan Erie fish aren't swimming back. I really had my eyes opened when I fished a shipwreck on Erie loaded and I mean loaded with smallmouth. I caught I think just three and then dropped the camera down and couldn't believe how many were actually there. That video is on the channel. That's why we love to fish. Thanks for the comments guys. Say hello if you see us out there.
