when did you start feeling like an old man?

For me it's this year. I turned 74 this past spring. I stay active but am starting to lose some balance. Every time I bend down to mark my golf ball i feel like I'm going to topple over. I can no longer go up and down the stairs in our home with out having one hand free to hold onto the railing. Im not really complaining as I can still get out and play, I can no longer handle cold weather. However life is good for this old geezer. Praise God!

For me, i still dont feel "OLD". I turn 77 next month and very active. I golf 3 days a week and fish 2 to 4 days a week. I still do all my chores as a home owner, too. I am in good health except for hearing aids and a little arthritis.
God only knows when i will slow down some, but i have no plans to slow down in the future.

You might talk to your doc about balance issues. Sometimes fluid on the ear or other causes may be determined.
Excercise for balance moves and core strengthening may help. Some as simple as walking a beam that is on the floor.

I sit on a big excercise ball with feet on the floor against the wall for knee bends for 20 reps for a lower body warm up. It is the same thing as doing squats, but you are sitting and it is much easier on your knees. I also use an excercise ball that has a handle-10lb-and use it as I twist full and change hands as I change direction seems to help me keep swing mobility.

I felt old when I moved from Colorado to Oklahoma.
Lost 10 yards on my drive instantly.

At 68 I can still make some good drives of 250 on occassion, some 180 yard four irons to a green over water especially when I was playing 4 times a week last year. This year surgeries started to have some affects on my game and I had to commit to the fight, but can't really go pound balls. I took July and August off from fishing and focused on the golf. Shot 78 for my low round of the after shooting 96 for the high of the year. Most all of my rounds are in the 80s at present. So all in all I should be pleased.

But to your question-reality sets in when I was no longer a single digit handicap. My low was 5 then up to 7 then 9. I came to Texas as a 9 two years ago. Now an 11 and that sux! So 66 would be the answer based on handicap.

I can still play 18 and not hurt so I can't really say I "feel" old. But three days in a row will make me sore but not hurting. I haven't played 36 holes in a long time-but need to try some next year. And I need to relearn to hit a draw drive. My surgeries have made that hard to do for some reason.
I just hope I can golf and fish as much as I want to at 77.

I fished with an 82 year old man yesterday who is feisty as all get out and a really good fisherman. He drives an hour and a half to the lake the day before, fishes the next day and drives home.

God is great and I am happy to have the chance to enjoy my life with my golfing wife and fishing with friends.
