Miracle Do Happen

My bro Donnie was basically dead for 6 1/2 hours nine days ago. He went down in Eastland Hospital and had to be heart shocked, put on a pacemaker @ 200 joules and intubated . He was care flighted to Hendricks Medical in Abilene and I was ask to call in family. The ER head floor nurse ask if I needed anything and I told her a miracle would be nice. She said she could not promise anything but I was in a good place to receive one. Donnie had no response to pain or light, basically brain dead. They determined his kidneys were failing and his potassium levels were off the charts. They started dialysis at 11:30 and at 1:30 the nurse said he was back. He squeezed her hand on command. Well nine days later he is strong enough to be moved to a rehabilitation center. That where today came into play. I have been sittin at the hospital since 11:30 today waiting on release orders. They finally came at 6:45. I hauled his butt to the rehab facility and tucked him in.. The only thing I need to do now is visit the ER and find that nurse and thank her for helping out with that miracle.........

Karl he is a very sick man but, he does have some quality life left. He will get better. I will do whatever I can for him because he is the feller that taught me how to fish, hunt and live life like there is no tomorrow. Did I mention the is one tough SOB....... to Donnie Wood Young.

Sounds very familiar to me. I was in his shoes several times before and here I am today. Glad to be on this side.

I have to go to dialysis 3 times a week for 4 hours at a time. It's not much fun sitting hooked up to a machine for 4 hours whiles it takes 70% of your blood out of your body and cleans out all the impurities and toxens and other junk, then sends it back into your body. Afterwards you feel very tired and you go home and go to bed for 3-4 hours. You stay tired till the next morning and then you have new found energy for a day.

Some days I sit and wonder, is my life is worth it or not. Why do I keep on doing this every other day. It gets so frustrating. I don't want to do it any longer. I start thinking about all my grandkids and it draws me out of those downward spirals. Then I start thinking about fishing and everything is even better.

WB, your brother was very fortunate to have you to look over him. I was lucky to have a loving wife looking after me.

WB, it's people like you and my wife that help make this world go round. Sometimes it's nice to have a wonderful nurse on your side as well.

And to the rest of you guys on this TBC forum. I want to say "thank you" to all of you too. When you don't hear anything out of me on here for awhile, it's because I'm in one of those downward spirals. When I show up again you know I'm doing good. Enough rambling on for now.

Grampa, my sister is the one that deserves the praise. He lives with her and she has given up so much for him. Their relationship has grown so strong that they are both miserable when they are apart. I am still a working man and can't devote near as much time as she does. I do help all I can. As far as the dialysis goes, his kidneys are doing a fair job of filtering toxins. As of now he is not scheduled for regular dialysis. They think his med were working against each other and caused the overload. I do thank each and everyone of you for the kind words and prayers.
