Several years ago my dad had a guy bring a boat into his shop for gelcoat/glass repair.He called me to look at it,guy used drywall screws on his hotfoot install and they were sticking out at least a 1/2 inch.

One I liked was someone that screwed 3/8" stainless plate across the back of the boat to "reinforce the transom"

Actually I had seen the screws poking out when we went & got it, I just smiled & asked for the name of their boat mechanic.
