Does or has anyone thrown a 1/8 oz. hover rig with a casting rod? I dont like spinning equipment. Casting it would be no issue. Im wondering if anyone has noticed a difference working the bait. Im thinking a 6'10" Medium expride would work.

I don’t think I could cast an 1/8 oz bait far enough on a true M action rod, but that just might be me. In the Expride lineup you’d be better suited with the 6’8” BFS model. I do have an Loomis 852c NRX + that I’ve used for hover rigs but I prefer spinning gear.
I threw the 1/8 oz hover rig with a Strike King Caffeine Shad (normal size...5 or 5 1/2 inches I think) on a G Loomis 843 MBR rod last year and it worked just fine. That rod is a MH. I honestly can't say whether it works the same as a spinning rod or not since I've only thrown the smaller 3/32 oz with the 1/0 hook (and smaller bait) on my spinning rod. But I can tell you that it casted just fine and I had no problem working the bait. However, I didn't use the retrieve where you just slowly reel the bait and shake the tip of your rod the entire time. Instead I would let the bait fall on semi-slack line and then pop my rod a couple of times to make the bait dart up and then I'd let it fall again. The rod/reel I used was perfectly fine for that retrieve but I'm not sure how well a baitcaster will work for the "standard" hover rig retrieve.
Just get a spinning rod. :)

I've thrown 1/8 oz hover hooks on a M casting rod (NFC MB704)/Aldebaran Mg7 and 10lb flouro just fine. Bass Assassin straight tail shad.
