NEED HELP 89 evinrude 150 xp on a 1989 nitro ski and fish

Hi all I am new to boating and am having trouble starting my boat cold. Is there a correct starting procedure to do? I have been starting it like this
Prime the bulb till firm and then hold the key in for a second and start it and it will stall after a few seconds at idle. I have to do this several times before it will stay running and it is getting frustating now. I will say after it does stay running it is good for the whole no problems. It is just the cold start. Is there a fast idle or choke? PLEASE HELP.

Depends on your controls on how the fast idle is applied. If you have a concealed side mount you either pull the shift/throttle lever towards you and push forwards (Chrome handle). If you have the gray plastic handle concealed mount you push in the button and then you can advance the throttle. If you have the flush mount box there is a lever on top of the control with the lever facing the rear. You lift that lever to bring it into fast idle. If you remove your motor cover, on the middle carb you will see a half moon plate that connects the linkage to the throttle plate. There are two embossed marks on them one short and one longer. With the cover off and the motor not running advance your throttle to the longer mark and make note of the handle's position. This should give you adequate throttle advance. While the cover is off see if there is a piece of clear plastic tubing over the black plastic roller. If not go to your hardware store's plumbing dept and get a 1/4" i.d. piece of clear plastic tubing. Cut it to length and insert it over the black plastic roller.
Now to the starting procedure, with the throttle advanced and the bulb firm, trim the motor in to slightly under level depress the key (choke) for 5 seconds and start the motor. If it fails to start on the first try, repeat the process twice. If no start don't depress the key again. Once the motor fires you may have to keep bumping the key to keep the motor running by then the fast idle should have taken over. Once the motor gets up to temp you should be good to go.
Welcome to the boards and happy boating!

Where is the plastic roller? Is it on the throttle linkage by middle carb? What does the tubing do? Do I keep the key pressed in while cranking it over for 5 seconds or press it in for 5 seconds then release and start? Thanks for helping me out with this.

The plastic roller is on a plate on the middle carb (brown looking roller closest to the bottom)

The tubing makes it the correct diameter to advance timing and throttle at the right increments. ??? Better explanation will come along, it just should be there

When I start mine I push the key in for about 5 seconds then continue to press it in while cranking. I think these motors all like a little different startup procedure, just try it that way and if it doesn't work try holding in the key less or more. It shouldn't take too long and you'll figure out what it likes
