    alarm sounding

Decided to take the boat out of winter storage today and blow fogging oil out of her. Ive got a 96 175 FastSrike;model # J175GLEDB, serial # G04061097. She started up fine and then after maybe 5 minutes the alarm statrs to go off. It would sound for 2 or 3 seconds stop for a second then repeat. There was a good steady stream coming from the pea hole at the time. Is this an oil or fuel issue. I had the same thing happen last couple of times on the water last fall. I would shut her down right away; wait a couple of minutes; start her back up and she was fine for the rest of the day. Any suggestions appreciated. Was also wondering if this could be an ethonal water problem. My motor doesnt have a fuel separtor but I did fill the tanks and used maine stabill when I put her away.

According to my manual rapid short tones is a no oil flow from pump alarm. Do you have the System Check gauge also showing no oil light? It could be the cold temps up there, anything but synthetic gets a little thick to pump. I'd start a 50:1 mix in the gas until you verify oil pump operation and switch to full synthetic in spring and fall.

This info was posted by JIMH in another post but it seems like it would be useful info for you:

"In order to interpret the meaning of the aural alert signal you have to identify its cadence and the circumstances in which it occurs.

Your owner's manual should contain information on how to interpret the cadence of the aural alert sounds.

The easiest cadence to identify is the steady-on cadence that comes when the cylinder temperature is too high. The temperature operated switch will typical close and remain closed for several minutes until the cylinder head temperature drops below the alarm threshold. The engine speed is also limited to 2,500-RPM. This signal does not fit with the cadence you describe.

The low oil level in the reservoir tank signal is a brief alarm tone that sounds then is silent for about 20-seconds. The signal oscillates on and off as long as the tank level is below the alarm threshold.

The fuel line vacuum sensor usually only signals an alarm during high throttle operation when the demand for fuel is high. High fuel demand met with limited fuel supply produces a higher than normal suction (or vacuum) in the fuel line. This signal comes and goes with high throttle settings.

The alarm signal from the OMS or VRO pump occurs whenever the monitored flow of oil is found to be lower than expected as compared to the engine speed. The signal is a series of rapid short tones that vary with engine speed.
