    Breckenridge Weather History for 2011

Today is our 54th day this year for 100+ heat...

Talked to an old timer that was here during the drought back in the fifties. He said it's worse this year because even though they didn't receive much rain back then, it was not this hot.

No relief in sight, even though my cows and pasture are ok for now, a lot of ranchers around me are selling off due to tanks drying up, no hay and pastures eat down to the dirt. I see cattle trailers EVERY DAY going by the house picking up cattle to take to the sale barn. I was in the local feed store yesterday and it was a sad sight. Hard core grown men ranchers with their heads hung low and some about to tears talking about losing their herds...Very Sad...

On top of all this, Hubbard Creek Lake will be about 14' low about the end of next week. It was about that low for 10 years and filled up 3 years ago. Now it's back to what it was. 14' low might not seem to be a lot but it's not a very deep lake...

Not a happy occasion at all J. Jones. Rayburn is at 11' low...getting close to a record! We are at 154.08' and the record is 151.??'

John, I too am pussled by this weather. I know in 1973 or 74 we had a spell of 105* weather but it wasn't anything like this. I like your quote from a few days back " We are one day closer to a flood".

63 days here same conditions with one of our lakes completely dry, another one not to far behind and Ivie 34 ft low. Record numbers of livestock at the sale barn. Had 15,000 head of sheep and goats go thru last Tuesday and Wednesday it is a dire situation all across the state, my neighbors paid 175$ for a round bale of hay yesterday

I was told today that the only hay that can be found now is Ark. And it $150 for a round bale. I got lucky a month ago and found some for $75 a roll and hopefully I got enough. If we don't get some rain soon, no amout of hay will be enough.

I hope you have enough rolls to get you through this. I have a few friends in the same boat and a couple'a them are looking at $150 rolls. We need rain bad.

Those are some startling #'s for sure. It has not "directly" affected me......yet, but coming from a family of farmers it certainly saddens me.

A good portion of the sermon at the little Church I attended as a kid was geared toward the crops and livestock. We have prayed for rain for many years and always will I suppose.

FACT --- if you eat, you support agriculture.

    Hear hear
If you think about it, at these temps one can survive without water for about 5 days. In the big picture, with about everything living requiring water for life, not praying for rain on a regular basis & showing thanks for it when it comes is rather silly (if one lives at a reasonable elevation above sea level).
