Looking at a used boat with a 150 HP Optimax. Hours are an unknown at this time. Generally what are the pro's and con's of this two stroke ? If I plan to purchase, I will take to my dealer for an inspection etc.
Thank you.

The 150 Optimax is a great motor but it may be underpowered depending on what boat it is on.
I've had one almost 15yrs, purchased new Mar 2009. It has been extremely reliable and fuel efficient, a great engine IMO. You'll find a lot of information in the 2.5L forum that covers our engines, a mod will move this thead for you.![]()

They were very good engines, built on the tried-and-true 2.5L Platform. As with any used engine, be sure to see if you can obtain the serial number (provide it here and we'll help), and have it checked out by a well-qualified tech that is familiar with the Optimax product.
I have one customer that has a 150 currently knocking on the 4500 hour mark (lots of maintenance, only one hard part that froze when left parked tilted-up). Otherwise original powerhead, compressor and gearcase.
