Anybody have slot cars growing up.

Man at 66 I still miss running those things. There was a hoppy store here in town that had a Giant track that you would rent a lane and a controller. We didn’t have the best of cars and the kids with money always beats us. But man was that fun. I have been thinking about getting a small AFX or if someone knows a better one I am all ears. Still have some of my old small cars. They must b over 50 years old.

Got a little hobby shop by me that still races every Wednesday. Now they have transponders for lap times. Guys set up little workshops. Most are old timers. Went and watched a couple times. They go to a 24 hour race every year.

I can relate 88 - I just turned 68 and grew up in Indianapolis. There were 4 or more commercial tracks at that time. I had an old breifcase that my dad gave me that was my car/controller carrier. Funny how those things mean a whole lot less when you discover girls.
I have a FX set that I pull out every once and awhile- its still fun. I will tell you its more fun when my son drives the black NASCAR and he lets me use the A.J. Foyt indy car.

My dad set up a track on two 4’ x 8’ plywood sheets for me in the basement when I was a kid. The neighbor guys and a couple gals would be there all the time. We had some big fun with those cars. My favorites were my green Jaguar and a blue Camaro. Good times they were. (This thread brought up long lost memories)

I was into them big time. I had both 1/24 and HO sets. Our town had a 10 lane track you could rent space on. Very good times.

I had the AFX and also still have my original cars and track. The controllers were shot. I set the track up on a table for my boys when they were young (early 90's) and acquired a few more cars, including a couple of truck/trailers....Goodwrench/Earnhardt and Kodak/Ernie Irvine. Has not been used since then. Friend of mine used to drag race 1/24, 1/25 scale slots.

I spent a fair amount of time at the mall doing that. I had 4 cars and a ton of guide pins LOL. My dad built me a track on a large sheet of plywood that would slide under my bed. Spent many an hour running them.

Back in the mid 60's there was a building next to the bowling alley that had 2 big tracks. One was for beginners and the other was for the more experienced racers. The cars were 1/24 scale and you could rent a car and controller for a dollar for 30 minutes of racing. Me and my brother spent alot of time there. This would be similar to what the track looked like.

In the early 80’s my friend and I built a track in his attic, scrimped and got ride to Toys are Us to buy cars. In a sad twist, you had to go through his younger sisters room to get to the attic . 1984 his sister was abducted and murdered and we weren’t allowed to go into her room . We drifted apart and he told me years later that as far as he knew it was still up there when his parents sold the house.

HO only for me. Lived in the country so there were no hobby shops close. My grandparents got me a track in the early 60 that was made by Lionel and was 64 feet in length. The cars weren't that great but I acquired quite a few more of other brands along with a lot of parts. The track went away but I still have some of the cars and I've had thoughts of getting another setup but it hasn't happened yet.

When I was 15 I worked at a slot car track renting track time and general after school type work. We sold kits and I would make some extra money putting them together and tuning them up. I could also make tubular frames. I would get into it again if it came back around here.

Yep, my brother and I had a track, we’d get bored just racing so we’d put a couple of drops of 3 in 1 oil on a few curves to make it more interesting;)

Heck yeah. Had a couple slot tracks in our area. Buddy had a Parma controller with fins mounted on it to keep it cool.
