New ProXS 175 4 stroke, first maintenance..winter is coming

    S/N: 3B273279
    Model #: 11750001A

Had this motor installed on 8/11/23. At the moment I have 7.2 hours on it so it's technically still in the break-in period (pathetic I know). I just ordered an oil change kit so I will do that before winter. That said, should I wait until I know I'm done with the boat for the season? I live in NW Illinois and I'll fish until there are pieces of ice on the Mississippi river (weather permitting), but that may only be a couple of more outings. Would it be okay to change it now and still use it before winter? I'll be lucky to have 10 hours on it before I'm done using it this year.

Also, should I do the fuel filter this season or can I hold off on that until I hit 20 hours? It too is listed as a 100 hours / Annual maintenance item. Everything else on the Annual maintenance list I will do before I put it up for the season.

    Thanks in advance.

My new motor is about 10 hours for the year. I plan to change your oil and filter in the spring and the lower unit. Why put fresh oil in it now just to sit all winter is my thought process.

Only because of condensation that will collect in the engine oil. I'd rather have fresh oil sitting it in over the winter.

I would run it until you know you're done for the season, and then perform your oil/filter and gear lube.

Unless contaminated or restricted, your fuel filter should be good until 8/2024 (or 100 hours of operation), whichever occurs first.

Thank you Don. Very much appreciated.
