    Braid for C-rig main line?

I was recently fishing a rocky area with a c-rig using a 3/4 oz weight, glass bead and 30# Sufix 832. The line was wearing out above the knot. I re-tied often, but still had an easy break on the braid when pulling off a snag.

Before going out next time I respooled with 17# Invisx. I returned to the same area. The sensitivity with the fluoro was greatly diminished and I don't want to use it.

The slip sinkers I'm using have plastic inserts, so I'm not sure if the rock or the sinker is wearing out the line. I've got some sinkers without inserts I''ll try instead.

    Any insights appreciated. Thanks

If it's wearing immediately above the swivel knot, you could try using a bobber stop there to cushion the bead's contact point.

Braid is horrible around rocks, flouro is better around rocks. If you're heart is set on using braid I'd say just go to like 65lb PP. Still won't be as good as 17-20lb flouro though.

You could try the pre rigged carolina weights (weight on a steel leader) to protect your braid from the rocks.

Maybe try using a short flouro leader on the braid. It will be another knot at risk of failing but might be the lesser of two evils when it comes to rocks cutting braid like a knife.

That's what I'd do if I wanted to keep using braid as a mainline. I fish a finesse c rig quite a bit on spinning gear with braid. I just leave my usual 6-8' fluoro leader like with any other bait and go to work.
You will have to be careful on hook sets though. If you try to hammer a fish the leader is going to pop.

Take off the glass bead and use a tungsten “clacker” instead. I use 65lb power pro and tungsten weights with spro swivels. The clacker will protect the knot from the weight. The knot and weight should make it back to the boat every time. I will use a 15 to 25lb INVISX leader. That is always the weak link.

Finesse c-rig works great on heavily pressured fish that's for sure. I've gone as far as just using a big swivel for the weight.

At one time I used glass heads on c-rigs. I have abandoned that now. I have found that
the weight would hit the glass bead and break a piece of it off. That would fray the line. So probably need to find an alternative to the bead.

I use braid as mainline, just retie often. A short straw will help a bit. I don’t like inserts on weights with braid.

I throw crig a bunch and I always use 17-20 pound flouro with 17lb mono leader and never have a problem.

Using braid around rocks is a guaranteed way to get your feeling hurt. I fish a C-rig a lot and use 15 pound Izorline Platinum as a mainline and a 15 pound Izorline fluoro leader. I use a pre-rigged sinker like the one that bigL mentioned above that I make myself. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Top_...ge-TBCRRB.html. But, since I fish around a lot of rocks and also around some zebra mussels, I put a 4"-6" piece of clear surgical tubing on my line ahead of the sinker and push it up on the loop on the leading edge of the pre-rigged set up to protect the knot. You can use the same surgical tube with any C-rig set up to protect the line in front of the sinker. Here's a pic. E-Rig 006.jpg

I like using braid but 30 lb test is way to light for throwing a 3/4 oz Carolina rig. 50-65 lb test is what I use for the main line and never have any problems.

I have fished a modified c-rig for years on a spinning rod with braid and glass beads are a no no got to use plastic beads, like from a craft shop or something the weight smashing into the glass is the culprit, also I use Big Game line for my leader and haven't had many problems and it catches fish

40-50 lb. Braid Plastic bead instead of glass. 1/4" length of 1/8 diameter plastic or rubber tubing between bead and swivel.(like you would use to keep a trailer hook on a spinner bait) Use lead 3/4-1 oz. sinker. No breaks.

The 30# braid definitely seemed light. Will upsize to heavier braid and try the tubing too. Also, I found these titanium beads that look good.

Braid and rock don’t mix. Simple as that.
