AT2 with latest software improvment over AT1

So, there were initial problems and complaints about AT2, but appears the latest sw updates have cleaned up most if not all of those early issues...

So, can we revisit the AT1 vs AT2 comparisons again? Initial comparisons were biased by the early sw issues, but now I think would be a good time to revisit a comparison. I am considering upgrading from my dual AT1's to a single AT2 and HD Nosecone setup.

IIRC, the strongest points for AT2 were better target separation for fish on the bottom, and also ability to see fish further out? Are these valid improvements or just marketing talk? Any other improvements?

I have had both and I for me the Active Target 2 is much better than the AT1. Maybe I just never got the first one dialed in right but I love the new one. I have watched Smallmouth come from twenty feet away to smack a jerkbait and seen the odd school of them at 70 ft. I am amazed at how many you see that will not bite. My next project is a bunch of different scents in the boat to watch the reaction by the fish.

what are your settings for at AT2, i've been running it for a month and still adjusting. i've been thinking the same thing on scent, it's amazing how one fish darts for the bait and next give act like its not right in front of them.

Best to wait till they fix the freeze issue with AT that was caused by the update to get a better comparison of the two.

Keeping in mind that I am still playing with it- Relatively clear water lake and I have been fishing in about 12 feet of water. Mostly forward mode at 70 feet, depth set at 20 feet, contrast at 86, palette 6, noise rejection off, stable view off.

I just bought AT2. For 100% clarity should I or should I not update the firmware? Thx

Just an update, have scoured the internet for some comparisons - there are a few, but not many. The general consensus seems to be that AT2 is hotter, ie has a brighter return (which could just be internal software adjustment, akin to increasing contrast), both AT1/AT2 still have beam stitching issues (which oddly enough never really bothered me), both still have the image response delay, and AT1 appears to be a bit clearer in the water column, while AT2 appears to have better bottom detail, and thus should have better target separation from bottom.

Now, these vids I've found either (in RMP's case) using Default/Auto settings (which nobody would use, typical RMP half ass effort), or (in both RMP and InDepthSonar's case) are using older software than the current .26 release. So there may be additional improvements to AT1/2 with the later upgrades.

InDepthSonar reported he would do follow-up video with updated software/HDS Pro, but I don't see it out there yet.

IDS also did a Livescope+ vs AT2 comparison, and clearly preferred Livescope despite being a Lowrance owner/user. In fact, the only thing he preferred on the AT was the menu and ease of setup. But AT still makes sense imo if you are already invested in a Lowrance setup. But starting from scratch I think most would agree, LVS34 would be the way to go.

I think for now I'll just stick with AT1... I've also been waiting on HD360 Nosecone, but appears that's been pushed out till next year, so picked up the standard version again, since I sold mine expecting the HD version to be available in Sept

I have AT1 on one boat and 3 AT2 units on the other boat. Both are running the latest software update. The latest software made a big improvement to my AT1 images. In forward mode I can’t tell much difference at all between AT1 and 2. I do think Scout mode is a good bit better in AT2. But I haven’t tried scout mode on AT1 since the latest update. The biggest advantage for me to AT2 is I don’t get cross talk with multiple units.

No Software is going to improve as much as the additional elements on the AT2 over the AT1 it way you have clearer images, more range on AT2
