I have an '06 40 and while it's not a tiller and it's not a jet I run it in water less than 50 degrees in November, February and March and it's no problem. So far it has been a great motor with no problems at all. Good luck.

E-tec can run in any temp water they recommend to run xd-100 oil if below freezing

You'll have no problem with that. I run my motor in the almost frozen water no problem. The beauty of the E-tec is it is designed to run in cold water. Great for winter months(when there is no ice) for waterfowling.
