    New boat Question

When you purchase a new boat do you have to register the trolling motor, locators, power poles , etc. in order to have warranty service? I know when you buy these items there is a registration card to send in, or does the dealer do this for you ? Thanks

I cant speak for all items on the boat, but here is what my dealer told me when I bought my boat in July

"We take care of the registration and warranty on the boat, trailer, and engine. You need to register the other items, but for almost all items the bill of sale will count for warranty period"

Now the application just this week. I finally got around to registering my Humminbirds. I had technical issues (browser related) when trying to register online. I called support. The gentlemen registered them over the phone but assured me that even if I didn't register the warranty still applies, but I would have to show a sales receipt, in this case a bill of sale.

    Just my experience.

You want to register everything just for if no other reason they send you update notices. That being said, my Lowrance updates notices have not come to my registered email address, and I find that there is an update on YouTube that alerts me. Ridiculous when there are several thousands of dollars of Lowrance electronics on my boat. Lowrance want to reply?

Great point. I hope I did not give the impression you shouldn't, or don't need to register, because I think you should, and in some cases may need to. I was just stating my experience this week.

The boat and engine are commonly registered for warranty. While a dealership should register everything, most dealerships do not and most consumers learn this only after a component issue. Component items often are not registered from what we’ve found. Most component manufacturers will substitute use of the invoice, or “Bill of Sale”, to validate the warranty on components. Thus either way you should be fine. If you have the registration card in hand, it was not registered.

I rig my own boats and have always used Johnson/H-bird--Minn Kotta.
Never had an issue with just using date of purchase.

If not registered and you can’t find receipt, Lowrance’s will use manufacture date as warranty start date.
