Ok what the hell is wrong with Texas is there seriously a need for SOOO many freaking electrical service providers? Anyway could you guys help me out I really have no clue what to look for the only thing I really understand is the rate per wat but I know there are some little things in fine print for the lower rate companies but dont know exactly what the heck they mean. what exactly do you need help with? Do NOT sign up with ANY of them for more than a year and do NOT pick a variable rate. Make sure there are no charges if you need to xfer your service to another residence. Make sure you do not have to pay a monthly "customer charge" on top of what your KWH usage is.
I would personally stick with the big boys. TXU, Reliant, First Choice Power

here ya go, shop yer ass off

    Its called deregulation.

If the deal sounds to good to be true then it probably is.

Looks like TXU is the one so far:
    9.7cents per Kilowat @1000kW
Fixed 12mo $150 cancelation fee (waived for military).

    Re: (tanker4lyfe)

When we lived in town we stayed with TXU and was pleased compared to our friends that chased rates. We did the average billing which kinda limited the surprises. Now we are on a co-op and take what they give us. Stay with the Big boys is good advice IMHO

9.7¢ is a pretty good rate, but make sure they don't have a bunch of other monthly fees. I'm paying 11¢ with Reliant, but am paying just for the Kw usage. Non of the other fees that I had with WTU Retail. Listen to Corky, he works for one of the transmission companies and can probably steer you in the right direction.

i'm glad you posted this. I've been with TU forever, and am looking to change to maybe Reliant, but haven't made up my mind yet.

[quote=Texas Larry] I've been with TU forever, and am looking to change /quote]

that's the best reason NOT to change Larry, you have bargaining power man
These big companies get preached over and over about customer service. You start mentioning how long and how good of a paying customer you been and they will listen. If you don't like what they say, ask to speak to the next level supervisor (nicely), and ask them what the absolute best rate they can offer.
Then again I'm a change is NOT good kinda guy or I might look at TXU rates. I don't want the hassle, I been with Reliant for 22 yrs. If you start jumpin around from one provider to the next, I think it will bite you in the ass one way or another.
I just signed on another year with Reliant for 10.9 with a xmission surcharge of $3.74 per month with no customer charge. Last year I was @ 13.2 cents kwh.

    Re: (Stratos201Mike)

GUys I worked for TXU for 15 years. I changed as fast as I could. I am with Cirro Energy and my rate is 9.3 cents. TXU still reads your meter and the transmission lines are still run but the same company. They had to spilt the company up under deregulation. I would change when you find a company you like. No need to pay for a higher rate when you don't need to. go to http://www.powertochoose.org/ and you will find rates

Get a heavy duty set of jumper cables and run it from your neighbors house.

Don't do that!!! A guy got killed doing that when i worked there. ALso it will cost you a lot on reconnect fee's and things like that plus you may go to jail.
ALso you could turn your meter upside for a couple of days but people have been hurt doing that also.
That's to much electricty for me to play with. I have seen a squirrel get bbq on a power line before. Knocked out 4 blocks . No thanks

    Re: (coachallen)

Coachallen - You need to come and visit inbred acres east of Austin, the jumper cables are a regular out there. Those folks have no fear of electricity, they have even broke into transmission stations and stole the cable leading to the transformers.

    Re: (bgibson53)

yea we use to catch the all the time in south dallas, pleasant grove and oak cliff. They would give us $20 every time we found someone stealing electricty. One month I made and extra $180. You would be amazed how many steal electricty..
Thing is I would read the meter an they would do it right in front of me. HELLO but thy did not care.. I did hav one guy pull a gun on me because h go a high bill. He said I read it wrong.. I said I was off last month fishing. He put the gun away and I ran and called the police.. he got arrested but I di read his meter the month before and NO it was not wrong
