Carbon Build Up in 4 Stroke

2021 225 Pro XS. Is the best way to monitor for carbon build up, to check the inside of the prop?

I recently had 300 hr service; as part of the service the motor was power tuned to remove carbon build that was attributed to hours of low rpms/idling. The dealer also recommended using Quick Clean.

I really didn't think there would be an issue with carbon build up with the new 4S motors.

O2 sensor on motors are post, so o2 can get dirty causing a mixture issue, quick clean probably needs to be in every tank due to that. Carbon could build up easily due to running rich

Please take a moment to review the Announcements at the top of the Forum, and be sure to provide the Required Info when posting (serial number). Thanks!

Moving your post to the 4-stroke Forum: If you look through the FAQ section there, you'll find some recommendations on fuel and fuel additives that should help you.

Spark plugs, prop bore, and other exhaust areas are good indicators for carbon levels and/or buildup.

I also use Don's cocktail plus run it hard before bringing it in. Also, try to do very little idling. I could eat my lunch out of my prop bore because it is so clean!

+1 to both above. I've used the cocktail in my Optimax nearly 15yrs and firmly believe it's what keeps my enigne clean and running great.
