Exposed Wood on Trailer Bunks - How Urgent?

Last trip I saw I have a couple of spots 2-3" long where my bunk carpet has worn through and is showing the underlying wood. I plan to replace & recarpet the bunks within the next couple of months, but I have several trips planned in the next couple of weeks before I can get this done. Is it OK to load/unload a few times as it is, or is there a temporary repair (e.g. duct tape?) I could quickly put over the bare spots until I get time to completely replace the bunks?

Just more hull scratches from the bare wood.

I agree. I like to recover them as soon as the wood appears. It makes me feel better if nothing else.

you can always put on a patch with a couple of small pieces of almost any kind of carpet till you get around to doing the job right!

When that happens, I use black hockey tape ( the wide style). It's better than duck tape. It's fuzzy and soft and it looks the same as the carpet. It also holds very well because it's made for wet environments.

Thanks for all the suggestions. This feedback motivated me to get some new boards and carpet and just get it done. I'm (hopefully) covering the boards tonight.

F.Y.I. my boat kept wearing holes through the carpet near the end of the bunks. I bought 5 foot sections of Gatorback and covered those areas. It really looks good (to me) and so far, no holes in two years, and I fish every week unless there's ice or 20 degree weather.
